Sylvester Uzoma Onyejiaka II (AKA Sly5thAve) is one of the most exciting talents on the scene today! Having performed with everyone from Prince and The New Power Generation to Taylor Swift, he is fast becoming one of the most important stars on the 21st century woodwind and groove-composition planet! Here is his bio in his own words:

I have always been fascinated by music and making way too much noise. So it's no wonder, that when I finally could have a real horn I chose the saxophone. It was the coolest. Period. I spent my childhood in Austin, TX, playing in church and school band, touching every instrument I could get my hands on, until at last my parents were set free from the sounds of me figuring it out, and I was sent to get better at the University of North Texas. I studied there for 4.5 years under some great mentors and had the privilege to play in the One O'Clock lab band my final year under the tutelage of Steve Wiest where we were nominated for a GRAMMY. That was all the juice I needed and I hopped on the first plane to NYC after Denton and  I've been living there ever since.

Since then I've had some amazing opportunities. I'll skip all the boring details and get straight to the highlights--I played in Prince's band for 2 years which changed my life and the way I think about music. Through this experience found a passion for arranging and producing music I didn't know I had and have been releasing my own music under the name Sly5thave steadily since then. Oh and most recently, was a part of my first GRAMMY award winning recording for CeCe Winans. I love music and this crazy journey that I'm on and am overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity that I've been given to live my dream.

So there you have it. I'm just a saxophone player from Texas. And Vinyl Hampdin is the coolest because these are all my heroes and mentors and I'm so exited to get to play with them! -Sylvester
